Bangladeshi Beef Curry is the ultimate comfort food. It can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home with warm rice or served at special occasions and family gatherings – a true dawat favorite. Rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying, this recipe pairs perfectly with white rice, pulao, khichuri, roti, or paratha. You know what I do with leftover beef curry? I take the gravy and meat and add it to my fried eggs for breakfast, best enjoyed with a crispy paratha on the side!

Ingredients

Special Beef Bhuna

  • 3lb/1.36kg beef with bone
  • 1/4 mustard oil
  • 2 medium onions or 1 large
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 2-3 cups Water as needed to tenderize the meat
  • 1tbsp Ginger Paste
  • 1tbsp Garlic Paste

Whole Spices

  • 3-4 cloves
  • 4 green cardamom
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 2 bayleaf
  • 1 cinnamon
  • 1/2 star anise (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp black peppercorns
  • 1 Mace

Ground Spices:

  • 1/2tbsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tbsp coriander power
  • Optional: 1tbsp Radhuni Kalabhuna moshla(secret ingredient)
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Directions

  1. Wash the beef and drain well. Marinate with the ground spices listed above. Set aside while you prepare the onions.
  2. Heat oil in a heavy-bottom pot. Add sliced onions, ginger-garlic paste, and the whole spices.
  3. Add the marinated beef. Cook uncovered on medium heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Cover and cook on low heat until the beef starts releasing its own juices.
  5. Add 2–3 cups of hot water . Cover and cook on low to medium heat for 1–2 hours, or until the beef is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. When the beef is tender and you see oil separating from the masala, add green chilies.
  7. Turn off the heat and cover the pot for a few minutes to let the flavors infuse!
  8. Serve hot with white rice, pulao, khichuri, roti, or paratha.
